Title: 1984
AuthorGeorge Orwell
Publishers:  Amazing Reads
Price: INR. 195
Goodreads Rating: 5/5

Have You ever imagine the cost of your freedom or even the freedom of your thoughts ? Have you ever lived in the fear of being booked under the charges of just thinking against the decree of the government ? Have you ever experienced the morbid psychological pain of calling 2 + 2=5 ? Have you ever.......?
Just imagine once, what will happen when such rules will invoke ? How will humans react ? Will we simply go on doing the stuff the stuff that our government wishes us to do or we'll choose the path of rebellion ? Hang on ! There's the third possibility, what if the government bugged the mavericks and then eviscerate the ideas of rebellion . Yes, what will be the world look like if such atrocities turned out to be mundane ?
1984 is a classic of dystopian literature written by George Orwell, the nom de plume of the author whose real name is Eric Arthur Blair. Written in 1948, the book serves as a powerful warning against totalitarian regimes and extreme ideologies. Orwell had penned this fable in the post-atomic era, a time when countries had only just come to realise the terrible and annihilating potential of the human psyche.
Set in a fictitious country called Oceania, which was dictated by an archaic figure called ' Big Brother ', was one of the three major countries of the world. Citizens of Oceania were kept under consistent vigilance by the tele screens, never speaking ears, that were bolted in the houses of every individual. English words were ordered to be destroyed & a new NewSpeak language was coming into existence which had cut the vocabulary to more than 50%. Intercourse was even revoked by the ruler, Marriage could only be possible after the approval of the committee. Children were turned into spies and given formal training in the schools . History was altered, time to time, as the regime found suitable.Hate Weeks or Hate Minutes were organised by the regime for people to participate in the session to vituperate the traitors. Amidst all these conditions lived our protagonist, Winston Smith. Employed at the government's ministry he was, but the whole system was an anathema to him. After years of working at the firm, he falls in love with a girl whom he thinks of an agent of ThoughtPolice ( Law enforcement of Oceania ). Keeping their affair secret was the must , so they used to meet & make out in the ruined places where the probability of the agents surveying ground was minuscule. But years later, the litany triggered worst case scenario which was gloomy enough to suffocate any reader's mind of the free world.
With most hauntingly terrifying portrayals of the future of mankind, 1984 is a must read the novel that 'll make you feel the importance of freedom of any parameter which we nowadays overlook.

Thoroughly Researched !!!

Title: A Beautiful Mind
AuthorSylvia Nasar
Genre: Non-Fiction
Publishers:  Simon & Schuster
Price: INR. 299
Goodreads Rating: 4/5

How could you, a mathematician, believe that extraterrestrials were sending you messages?" the visitor from Harvard asked the West Virginian with the movie-star looks and Olympian manner.
"Because the ideas I had about supernatural beings came to me the same way my mathematical ideas did," came the answer. "So I took them seriously."

Thus begins the true story of John Nash, the mathematical genius who was a legend by age thirty when he slipped into madness, and who -- thanks to the selflessness of a beautiful woman and the loyalty of the mathematics community -- emerged after decades of ghostlike existence to win a Nobel Prize and world acclaim. The inspiration for a major motion picture, Sylvia Nasar's award-winning biography is a drama about the mystery of the human mind, triumph over incredible adversity, and the healing power of love.

The Beautiful Mind is a deep biographical sketch of the life of a Mathematical Genius & Nobel Laureate John Nash whose awe-inspiring work in Mathematics & later the disease, schizophrenia, which crippled his career and kept him in limelight throughout the second half of 20th century. The scale of research that this book own left no doubt that Silvia Nasar, author & a former economics correspondent for The New York Times, had pooled her experience in writing the biography of a genius whose life is an inspiration to many youths around the world.
This 485 pages long ( 134 pages dedicated to detailing notes & references ) talks about the mystery of the human mind, triumph over incredible adversity and healing power of love. A compulsively rational, egotistical & childish but also very sensitive to the real need of others, John Nash was raised to become an engineer & had got into a local college but his keen interest in mathematics was seen by his professors & then he was advised to pursue his academics in Mathematics which later landed him among top universities of the world. His college revolved around the time when universities like Harvard & Princeton were eager to get the best students on board and the same happened at the time of Nash who was bewildered which one to choose : Harvard or Princeton ? But a letter from Princeton's Mathematics Dean made him sit & pursue research at Princeton from where he published several papers which changed the scope mathematics. From all the paper, the most efficacious were his research on Game Theory & Nash Equilibrium. But only a few years later his behavior deteriorated 'cause of schizophrenia which eventually derailed his path a successful mathematician. Apart from John,I believe, another major reason that this book hits the stand was because of Alicia, John's Wife, who played an important role in saving the life of this genius. Her love had extricated him from the tangles of disease & made him live a normal life.
Deep research about the matter made this book rich of knowledge about the mathematical fraternity in the US of America during the 1950s but some stances are somniferously long.
This book is a must read all those people who're hungry for knowledge, curious to know how strenuous it's to work out in the field of mathematics in the 1950s.

Author: Adarsh Ramesh
Genre: Fiction
Publishers:  Frog Books
Price: INR. 495
Goodreads Rating: 4/5

Dedicated to Sherlock Holmes, The Dominion is a mystery thriller donning a prim & gory cover that holds the potential to short circuit the strings of the brain. Plot launched with different stories triggered in different parts of the world at different timing . Initiated with Nahiossi Griffith ,who found himself in a complex predicament, was accused of murdering a highly placed government official, Senator Vaughn Fletcher , who was also his to-be-father-in-law as well as his business associate.Later fleeing from the crime scene , he abducted the American Vice President, whose role in this whole scenario seems contentious, and three students as a leverage to fly to his homeland. Next one is that of well-planned heists that took place at different places at the same time in the same manner with no trails left by robbers, who actually accomplished their mission by playing as ' Department of Homeland Security '. These heists are done under the patronage of The Wolf who's running a parallel government , PiCrop , to the White House which owns people who'd been ostracized by their government or had been inflicted the damage from their parent agencies. The third one is that of Rubert , a cantankerous & narcissist lawyer who kept a distance from his father's company but finally, a case lets him plunge into the milieu which he detests from the very core of his heart. Beside it, there is this ' The Fuhrer ' who calls himself the friend as well as the enemy, Doom & Hope , Devil & a God who's forging new alliances to establish his rule in the world with numerous world leaders already prostrate in front of him. All these intricate webs of stories finally fanned into the flashback, revealing the present is all based on the vengeance, lust , love & battle for power in past.
So, The Dominion is a must read for all those who wants to taste mystery & thriller with a pinch of Historical fiction.
